Crane conservation fieldwork in South Africa with Lara Jordan (PhD)
There are 3 species of crane in South Africa, including the endangered wattled crane & South Africa’s near-endemic national bird the blue crane. There have been concerted efforts to increase the population of wattled cranes in South Africa, including hand-rearing. Efforts have been compounded to ensure human-imprinting is avoided. Learn more about the strange behaviours of these graceful (& apparently not so monogamous icons) with Lara Jordan of the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Lara has reared over 50 bird species & worked all over the world.
The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is a well-known conservation organisation based in South Africa. If you’d like to learn more about what they do & how you can help, visit www.ewt.org.za.
