Problem-oriented Wildlife Protection
Wildlife protection is the business of international NGOs, national governments, and academics. Given the diversity of threats to ecosystems, a wide range of disciplines is needed to design effective solutions to tackle wildlife crime, such as the poaching and trading of wildlife.
Dr. Andrew Lemieux approaches wildlife crime from a criminological perspective, and is particularly focused on applying lessons learned from research on crime prevention and policing to improve wildlife protection. Together with key partners in the field, Andrew is helping several tiger sites in Asia to implement a concept called ‘probem-oriented wildlife protection’. Andrew also has experience working with conservation organisations and law enforcement agencies all over the world, including Uganda, South Africa, Thailand, and India. During the lecture, he will talk about his experiences in the field with law enforcement rangers on the front line of conservation.
As mentioned above, people from various backgrounds and experiences are required to tackle the ‘wicked’ problem of wildlife crime. Therefore, we encourage students, researchers, and young professionals from all disciplines to join us for this lecture. After the lecture, we can continue our discussion in an informal setting at the café. We’re looking forward to another evening full of conservation inspiration. See you on Tuesday 26th of June!
