June 21, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Future for Nature Academy and Congo Present: Farwiza Farhan

The Leuser Ecosystem in Aceh, Indonesia, is a unique ecosystem of immense environmental value. It is the last place on earth where orang-utans, rhinos, elephants and tigers still coexist, but it is severely threatened by (illegal) deforestation.

Farwiza Farhan, winner of both the prestigious Future for Nature Award 2017 and Whitley Award 2016, is working hard to put further deforestation to a halt. She established the HAkA foundation to empower local communities to participate in the protection of a vital ecosystem. Yet, the complexities in which ecosystem destruction is enfolding and the numerous actors involved, from provincial governments to multinational companies, requires an integrated approach that brings people from all disciplines together. Farwiza Farhan will tell about her experiences and approach to help protect the Leuser ecosystem, and explain why and how we need you and your skills!

Curious about Farwiza’s approach? Be there, join the discussion, get inspired and find out what you can do to help protect the Leuser Ecosystem!
