Forgotten fishes
WWF’s Living Planet Report 2020 attributes the greatest relative biodiversity loss among freshwater species. Sadly, this group of aquatic animals remains greatly understudied, despite being vital for many ecosystem services. Shoal (www.shoalconservation.org) is an organization focussed on the conservation of freshwater species. Its mission is to try and stop extinctions and aims to recover populations of threatened freshwater species in the wild.
