Documentary evening: chimpanzees and pygmy hogs

Together with the Jane Goodall Institute Global (JGIG) and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT), we as Future For Nature Academy have organized this interactive documentary evening. Our speakers will tell you about the work being done behind the scenes regarding two endangered animal species: chimpanzees and pygmy hogs, the “chimpions” and “underhogs” in animal research and conservation. Two recently released documentaries will be shown AND you will be offered the opportunity to ask questions to the experts from the movies themselves!

Pygmy hogs
We will start with the smallest of pigs. Dr. Ole Madsen, a researcher from the Animal Breeding and Genetics chair group, will tell more about the evolutionary/genetic research that is being done using pygmy hog DNA. After this talk we will watch the documentary “Durrell’s Underhogs”. This is a movie created amongst others by Daniel Craven, who is active for DWCT. Gerald Durrell, founder of this foundation and of Jersey Zoo and Durrell Wildlife Park, was an inspiring protector of nature and wildlife.

Chimpanzees
Dr. Jane Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, is a famous primatologist and inspires people around the world to protect nature and animals. We will tell you more about a project of JGIG called ‘ChimpanZoo’. This second half of the evening we will also elaborate on the work done by enrichment coordinator Hilda Tresz, who works for Phoenix Zoo and JGIG, but travels to other zoos to help improve the living conditions of captive animals, especially chimpanzees. This is captured in her documentary called “A Week To Change”.

Joining this activity gives you the unique opportunity to be in contact with Daniel Craven and Hilda Tresz themselves, as they will join us over Skype! Throughout the evening there will also be free drinks/snacks. We promise an inspiring and educational evening that no animal or nature lover should miss!
